2008 FPA of Pittsburgh Presidential Message

The “Boomer Tsunami” conference on April 2nd at the Southpointe Hilton proved to be an excellent source of information for the 60 plus attendees. Lewis Walker, a renowned speaker, financial advisor and author, provided us with take aways that will serve us all well. And John Fontana showed us that maybe we are uninformed about Long Term Care and the impact a nursing home stay has on a family.

Bottom line is our Program Director, Darla Main, is using her wealth of experience and success as a financial advisor to bring us great events this year. At the meeting, I mentioned a fortune cookie that I had. It said “The busiest people have the most time”. Darla is a prime example and living proof that busy, successful people have the most time, and use it wisely. Darla chooses to give back to our profession and is doing so in a second tour of duty. We are really lucky to have Darla helping us.

Many of us have become successful financial planners, and now choose not to give back, because we think we are “too busy”. However, as successful business people, you now have the abilities to actually help others and be a vital resource. Jim Helba, a past president, who is actively involved with National, recently (and out of the goodness of his heart), joined us at our Board of Directors meeting. Now Jim is also very busy and a successful financial planner. He mentioned that in talking with another high profile advisor here in Pittsburgh, they had never run in to each other with clients. Morale of the story, there is more than enough business out there for all of us. So why do those that become successful choose not to help anymore? Is that a question you should ask yourself?

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.

"We are FPA”

Charles J. Schilleci, CFP
President, FPA of Pittsburgh
